Bright Eyes @ the Bowery Ballroom

8 women & Connor… that’s Bright Eyes. A rotating orchestra sharing a magnum of Turning Leaf. The entire evening was perfectly summed up by the guy standing next to us, who shouted “Addicted to Love” in between songs. Yes, Connor Oberst is Robert Palmer.

The show itself was good – sometimes I’d really rather they didn’t remind us of all the pseudo-pretentions. I know it’s probably ironic, but the lyrics are such that they could be bad teenage poetry in the wrong light.

We missed all but the last two songs of The Good Life’s opening set. Of course, we didn’t realize that TGL was Tim Kasher, or we would have been there much earlier.

It’s ironic that I didn’t want to buy the new PW until Stereo was released because Mono was bundled along with it – implying , I guess, that Stereo was the main dish & Mono was the side.
Lemme tell you, Stereo’s good, but Mono rocks. If only Tommy hadn’t had to go back on tour w/ Axl, we could be listening to a reunion tour right now, w/ maybe even Bob lifting one wherever Bob is.
How’s that compare to the three or four disks that Bob’s (the other, the main?) releasing this year? Well, I’m still waiting for them to hit $6 at Amazon, so I can get one. They’re down to $9…

Pedro @ the Bowery Ballroom

I’m going to try to do a better job of logging live things and such, but it’s 1:11, and I’m tired, and have to get up in 5 hours, so I’ll just add a placeholder for now.
Good show, would have been great had they played more old stuff, but truly a very nice suprise to see they (he?) had quite a bit of stage presence. Q&A all night long, which was good. Obviously lots of very big fans in the front who asked interesting questions. Suprised to see he came on for the encore (if you could call it that, one song on a borrowed guitar) w/ a beer. Managed to work man love & camel fucker (sarcastically) into his patter.
Great crowd, very white of course, but SILENT & appreciative. Never hear the BB quiet for a solo song.
Don’t be confused though, they rawked. Didn’t think I’d need the earplugs, and put them in my pocket out of habit, but not at all a laid back set on some of the new stuff.
Had my favorite spot for listening alone – upstairs next to the sound board & bar.

Microsoft Wins!

dpille writes

“In a stunning, sudden victory for Microsoft’s Imperial forces, ulman.net was overwhelmed Friday with Microsoft Internet Explorer users. ulman.net, previously in the vanguard of the growing “Microsoft-Free Fridays” army, had recently launched a new section of its site without the crucial browser check that would have ensured the site’s Microsoft-impenetrability.
“I’m speechless,” said a frequent visitor to ulman.net. “I had gotten rather used to being excluded on Fridays from the extraordinary entertainment and information available on ulman.net, due to my rabid support and respect for all things Microsoft. But when somehow I was able to view the page today, I immediately called my handler with the Empire and started spreading the news of ulman.net’s vulnerability to our dark and insidious magic.”
Those familiar with ulman.net indicated that traffic at the site was 100% greater, and perhaps even infinitely greater, than the previous Microsoft-Free Friday. The cruel lord Bill Gates responded to these developments by ‘tenting’ his fingers and raspily saying “Infinite!””

Good point – I just added it – matt.

Isles v. Leafs tonight

Nothing like reaching into the fridge for the milk, catching a glance at the undated playoff tickets on the door, and realizing that you’re supposed to be at the game that has 5 minutes left. Did I mention I’m a moron. Eastern Conference Quarterfinals – not League Quarterfinals. Duh

Great game, at least the bit that I saw. I can’t believe that these guys are holding on, it’s exciting to see after so many years of crap.

First Post!

Well, this should be interesting. I’m going to move everything from here eventually.
I have mixed feelings about this. For one, this is what I do for a living. Using other people’s stuff makes me itch a little bit, especially when it’s been “simpled” up as much as this has, making it hard to change in the ways I’d like. I’m fairly sure I could write something as useful, and much easier to maintain, but I’d never have the time to add the stuff that this one has, like journals & stuff. I think I’ll work on both, and see which I like better.

Anyone who wants (who am i kidding, only dave reads this shit), can have admin privs – just post or something after signing up.

Open Page, v 1.1

When I was dating Julie, I used to go up & stay in the annex (funny, I can’t remember what it was called now, it’s the one that’s not the language lab – the one that we used to practice tang in the basement…) w/ her. She only had one cd. It was Live through this. Maybe because we were listing to Le Tigre earlier, I got the urge to listen to Hole again, probably for the first time since then. It’s strange. J‘s asleep, and it’s almost like I’m back in NH, drinking & alone.
I wish I knew where she was, I’d make her listen to S-K, and open up a whole new, better world for her.
